When Joe first heard he was going to have a freshman year roommate named Lee, Joe decided that I must be Asian. Joe was later discussing this fact with our third roommate Allon, who asked, "uh oh, does that mean he is going to study a lot and make us look bad?" To which Joe replied, "oh definitely, he's going to be a total gunner." Well the big first day of college arrived and the three of us met. After I had gone downstairs to unpack clothes from my car and was well out of earshot, Allon was the first to point out that, "dude, he's not Asian." I think Joe believed him. And though I think Joe continues to be slightly disappointed because to this day I am still not Asian, we have managed to become good friends.

Joe has gently reminded me on several occasions to write this (thankfully it's only a blurb, i don't know that many words). But really, it couldn't happen any other way. We became good friends sometime early in high school running track and attending class together. Ahh yes, good old iona prep. I might still be enrolled there if it were not for joe calling me pretty much every night to do my homework. Ok, maybe I would have passed by the skin of my teeth, but certainly not with good grades. So while this blurb may have felt a little like homework, it's actually homework I'm enjoying doing. I hope this receives a passing grade.

I've actually known Lori longer than Joe (okay, by like a day and a half) and what I've come to learn is that she is intelligent, driven, patient, loving, welcoming, gentle and a truckload of other adjectives that makes her the incredible woman she is. I couldn't hope for a better person for one of my best friends to end up with.

I know Joe very well. He is a lionhearted competitor yet calm as a lamb, a great listener, fiercely loyal, steadfast in the face of adversity with the will to succeed. He's everything a guy could hope for in a friend, and I surmise everything Lori could hope for in a husband. She's got a hall of famer in Joe.

I started writing more, but then I realized I was writing my toast and this is just a blurb and stopped.

So without ruining all of my material for the co-best man speech I'll just say I'm incredibly lucky to have a friend like Joe in my life. Scratch that. He beame more than a friend a long time ago. Joe is family now whether he likes it or not. and guess what Lori? You are too. Guess you both are going to have to put up with me together. I can't wait. Muahahahaha

On the day he gets married, I will have known Joe more than half my life (and Lori for very nearly as long -- but I'm one of the groomsmen, so I'm going to keep this mostly about the groom). I dug out my senior yearbook to see what Joe had written in it, and he told me, "You have provided us with countless hours of entertainment just by being yourself." Ignoring the tongue-in-cheek aspect of that, I just want to say, right back at you, buddy. Joe has been a great friend for many years, and my wish for Joe and Lori's marriage is all the health, peace, happiness, and love in the world.

Also, if none of the groomsmen make it to the wedding, I want everyone to know that Joe made a special request that I drive them to the church in a 16-year old Toyota. (Joe's response: THE WHITE KNIGHT RIDES AGAIN!)
